On 26 October 1863, representatives of a dozen London clubs met at the Freemasons' Tavern and founded the Football Association — the first governing body of the game. Over six heated meetings they wrote the original Laws of the Game, splitting football forever from rugby: no carrying the ball, no hacking. Every match played anywhere today, from the World Cup final to a 7v7 on a Mumbai turf, descends from those thirteen laws.
